That's why I think it's just a super good encounter and I know there are a lot of DM's that think it shouldn't be done because there is a really big chance for the PC's to die. I just love how they did it, in the book it's an almost impossible encounter but if the PC's think smart and creative they can still win. Then they killed them one by one, they even took a long rest and fed them enough pastries to let them be in the trance. I had them roll opposing athletics or acrobatics checks and after a couple of tries, all the hags were asleep. They asked if they could force-feed the hags the pastries so they would get in a trance. I told them that there were a couple of Dream pastries ready to be sold. So they did something super simple but super smart at the same time. So the battle started but they found out that they would lose if they didn't do something smart. Now the fun part starts, our cleric put his hand on her shoulder like he had to tell something but he did just cast Inflict wounds. Morgantha just told them casually that it was the kids from the pastries like it was the most normal thing in the world. It was so funny because when they entered and heard some kids screaming they asked what happened. After the beginning (meeting Ireena, Ismark, Madame Eva.) they got to the Old Bonegrinder mill, they already ate some dream pastries from in Barvovia and they just loved it. So today I played my first session of Curse of Strahd, my players played a couple of sessions but never a full long campaign so I thought it was time for it.
